[Serialities] Hell on Wheels Aka Hell on wheels
My note traditionally begins with the words “Something for a long time I have not written in my blog”.
Meanwhile, the year turned out to be quite rich in steep serial undertakings and a good Kinzo (I won’t write anything about Kinz, because most thoughts are expressed in my podcast, but not every film is appreciated perfectly).
The title says Hell On Wheels (AKA Hell on wheels), which means this will be about that TV series. What is Hell On Wheels? This is Western, but Western in a little non -standard decorations: no chickpeas of the deserts and prairies that we usually see, for that is, quite green grass, forests, rivers and, probably, the main thing that is formed thanks to this climate – the ubiquitous dirt.
Against the backdrop of these scenery, along the Civil War in Asashay, a man named Thomas Durant builds a railway passing through the whole country (Union Pacific). The railway is also a decoration for an unfolding drama, but it is one of its main characters. One because the other (The most important thing, According to the scriptwriters) is Kallen Bohennan (performed Anson Mount, By the way) – a former soldier of the Confederates, who set the goal of the rest of his life to find and kill the soldiers of the Union, who raped and killed his wife during the war (easier to take revenge).
[Kallen Bohenanan with his own person. Cool hats – another reason for watching the series (=]
In the very first frames of the series, Bohenann shoots in the church (!) one of the first subjects of revenge, which then will come out sideways, but then. And then, in search of the next victim, he wanders for the construction of the same Union Pacific in order to linger already by 10 episodes that make up the first season. Durant hires him as a foreman, so that he was kicking blacks to work well. Corresponding conflicts grow from this. The theme of racism is probably the most well revealed of all available.
[… revealing the theme of racism]
Generally a working town Hell On Wheels (yes, this is the name of the village, for the builders of the railway), the welcoming tabular of which is “the population: falls every day”, and the first thing that can be seen at the entrance is the same conflict catalyst. Here you have the Indians who do not want to yield to the land of the railway, and the immoral, but the calculating manager nicknamed the Swede (and in fact – the Dutchman), fighting the taxes with whom not when he has not gotten away, and many more. A variety of people.
Separately, I will note from them Lily Bell – the widow of the topographer, who developed a plan for building railway. Extremely strong in spirit “lady” who knows her price. Always.
[Mysterious smile is so mysterious. ]
All characters are good and at the same time really similar to people. This is especially true for Bohennan: he is not a knight in white armor and not an embittered dick, hating absolutely all. His life credo is generally an interesting thing: on the one hand, he is a completely moral, tuned pacifist and opposing slavery, but on the other, he often can get drunk to unconsciousness and not experience a drop of shame, as well as shoot a dozen people from his revolver.
“Mr. Bohenann, have you ever told you what kind of hamm? – Yeah … (approx. KVK)
There are no absolutely bad and absolutely good characters here. For that, the actors played them excellent excellent. Thomas Durant, who would seem to want exclusively money from his railway (the state pays him for every 40 miles => He tries to build the road as long as possible), after a while reveals his true face and it is actually not as terrible as it seems at first glance. And so with everyone. I haven’t seen this anywhere else.
Another series sounds very cool. The soundtrack is chikaren without any reservations. Combat country drags everywhere and rejoices at the hearing.
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020, Flash has not been supported by browsers)
In the end:
– Great studied characters
– Great soundtrack
– An interesting plot (without it, watching TV shows does not make sense at all)
– A perfectly revealed topic of racism (in special marks))
– perfectly removed naturalistic combat scenes
I haven’t found minuses yet. Except one: not the best ending of the season. But this can be missed, t.To. The second season will certainly be and I look forward to.
